Teachers

jolin-conine2Jolin Conine has been teaching for over 10 years. She is the studio owner of Fuel Hot Yoga in Athens Georgia. Jolin has trained in several various yoga disciplines and teaches Bikram yoga, Vinyasa, cYoga, and the Bishnu Ghosh Intermediate and Advanced practice. She took her first hot yoga class in 2005 after suffering from chronic back and neck pain due to 4 herniated discs. In 2008 she completed the Bikram teacher training and then went on to study the Ghosh lineage practice with Tony Sanchez. She completed her Vinyasa training with Jared McCann in Williamsburg, New York and most recently trained with Carmen Aguilar @cyogalife. A perpetual student and an avid yogi and business owner, she loves teaching and sharing the practice of yoga and meditation with her students and the community.

Jeanne Heaton Originally from New York, an actress and writer Jeanne Heaton moved to Athens Georgia to teach at Fuel Hot Yoga where she teaches, bikram and yin yoga as well as workshops and community classes. As a recovering addict, Jeanne’s journey began with the deep realization that if she were to save her life she would need to change it, entirely. After years of debilitating addiction, she finally surrendered and put herself into a bottom-of-the-barrel hard core drug detox in Jamaica, Queens. In her recovery she found hot yoga. It was during her very first class, when she knew, that this was the missing ingredient to her recovery but even more importantly, was the missing ingredient to everyone’s recovery. Jeanne attended Bikram teacher training in 2010 and founded the non-profit, ‘One Posture at a Time’ with Pure Action.org in Texas and Jolin Conine of Fuel Hot Yoga in Athens GA. Thousands of hours have been dedicated to bringing yoga and mindfulness to recovering alcoholics and addicts from New York City, Athens, Texas, and our list keeps growing. Jeanne’s also completed Trauma Training and Somatic Experiencing training, has given seminars on the Role of Yoga in Addiction Treatment at Yale University with Dr. Ismene Petrakis, and the One Fire Hot Yoga Festival in DC. She was one of the main speakers at The Yoga and Mindfulness for Recovery Conference in Portland Maine and for the Exercise Is Medicine, Dept of Kinesiology – EIM-OC at the University of Georgia.

Activites

Optional Excursions (additional fee applies):

Cenotes
The Mexican Riviera is flush with these beautiful underground pools and a trip here isn’t complete without a dip in these refreshing waters. There are multiple cenotes to visit that are much less crowded than those in the Tulum area and only about 30min away by car. Find tranquility below ground or liven you experience with a cenote/zip line combination. Both options are available and booking at least a day in advance is recommended.

Snorkeling & Snuba
The biodiversity on the protect reef in the Mexican Riviera is stunning. Take off for an afternoon when the sun lights up the corals, tropical fish and sponges and search for turtles or reef sharks. Snorkelers can float above it all while scuba divers (no certification needed) can swim down into the tropical traffic. Either option will highlight why this area is protected and turned into a National Marine Park. Yogis can walk to the beach and take a 5 minute stroll to reach the operator. This natural oasis is literally steps from our retreat center.

Scuba
If you’re a diver there’s twice the opportunity here, you can dive in the coral reefs or, for something a little different, take a cavern or cenote dive. Seasonally the more adventurous (crazy?) yogis can also try a bull shark dive…eek! Tons of diving options await the intrepid.

Akumal Sea Turtle Snorkel
The warm Caribbean waters off of the Mexican Riviera boast sea turtle populations year-round. You can outfit with a dive shop to snorkel with these lovelies or head out with your own gear and see if you get lucky.

Coba Ruins
The Mayan ruins at Coba is one of the few sites in the Yucatan that is still relatively unrestored. Many of these ancient buildings are the same as when they were rediscovered in 1890. The beautiful location is less hectic and touristy than other Mayan sites and is certainly worth the day trip.

Playa Del Carmen Take a shopping trip, have a great meal, or just enjoy people watching on a trip to Playa del Carmen. This is a fun tourist spot where you can shop for anything from cheap souvenirs to boutique items.
