About the Teachers
JJ was born in Boulder, Colorado. He first visited Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in 1994 at the age of 8, to attend his mom’s graduation. Little did he know, it was just the beginning of a life-long adventure with Bikram Yoga. Involved in many sports, by 19 JJ had suffered injuries to both knees as well as his left ankle. To heal, JJ practiced yoga for more than 400 days in a row. He attended teacher training in the Fall of 2011. “I love teaching this yoga just like I love coaching kids’ sports. It’s helped me heal from several injuries, and it truly brings out the best in everyone — which I love and I get to see every day.”
Ari first tried yoga in 2010 and instantly connected with the meditative nature of the practice. He attended Bikram’s Teacher Training in the Fall of 2011 so that he could share his passion for yoga with the community. Ari’s goal as a yoga teacher is to be of service to others. His specialty as a yoga teacher is working with injured students. He knows how it feels to practice yoga while in pain, and how it feels to heal one’s body through consistent yoga practice, having used yoga to heal from his own low back and knee problems. Ari is the co-owner of Bikram Yoga Durham and teaches and practices there on a daily basis.
Hanna has started practicing Bikram Yoga with her parents in 2006. At the time she was overweight, and dealing with depression and anxiety. While the practice was tough at first, she found Bikram Yoga began to increase her confidence, and it made her stronger, happier and healthier. Hanna has worked every job she could find at a Bikram studio since then. She’s cleaned for free classes, worked the front desk, managed the studio, and in 2012 she went to Bikram Yoga Teacher Training. Currently she co-owns Bikram Yoga Durham in North Carolina with her husband, Ari. Hanna is happy to say she no longer has issues with depression, and while she does still struggle with anxiety from time to time, her symptoms are much more manageable.
