About the Teacher

Lea Sutherland
Lea completed her Moksha teacher training course after several years of teaching yoga in the Ottawa area. She was drawn by Moksha’s strong sense of community and commitment to the environment. In her teaching style, Lea loves facilitating the transition from being in our heads to connecting with feeling ourselves in our bodies. Her favorite thing is seeing a student come in, hurried and frenetic, and then the juxtaposition when they leave calm, collected and grounded. Recently Lea became an RMT. She loves doing hands on adjustments – especially the ones that help students to relax and sink even more into their yoga experience. Her past jobs have varied from Pastry Chef to school teacher and many things in between, but teaching yoga is the one career where she always feels more energized after work. There is a magic energy transfer that happens in the studio and she feels really blessed to both participate and share her love of yoga – “I want to share yoga and the benefits of yoga with everyone!”. Lea has completed the Moksha Teacher Training, Yin, Forest Yoga and continues to cultivate her knowledge while attending workshops such as cranial sacral therapy, anatomy, psychology and energetic healing to name a few.

Renee Banville Renee’s life journey and experiences are colorful and varied and her sense of curiosity and love of life has led her down many roads. In Yoga she found the balance, peace and serenity which has enabled her to slow down the pace of a previously crazy and hectic life as a sales person and, re-focus her energies on what is truly important to her which is Connecting. She is passionate about connecting with her students, her community, her friends, her family and especially with herself. She’s learned that if she can be there for herself then, she is in a better state to help others cultivate awareness and perhaps insight and reflection. Renée loves witnessing the physical, emotional and mental changes in the students which often occur over a short period of time of practicing yoga. She strongly believes there is a ripple effect that comes from both the practice and philosophy of yoga which spreads inconspicuously into our lives and to those around us. Practicing yoga has helped her acquire tools which she previously did not believe were accessible to her. Tools such as breathing and grounding down before a presentation; breathing and calming the nervous system when in a stressful situation; breathing instead of reacting in an undesirable situation and most importantly, breathing deep into what she is feeling and sitting with it while it passes… be it anger, hurt, frustration etc.. “For me, practicing is like brushing my teeth…i can’t miss a day. It helps me feel more open, grounded, fluid and centered. When I walk into the hot room I feel the heat wrap around me like the warm hug I need and it instantly brings me enormous comfort.” Renée is trained in Moksha, Moksha Flow, Moksha Level 2, Yin Yoga and is a co-owner/studio Director of Moksha Yoga Orleans.

Activites

Optional Excursions (additional fee applies):

Cenotes
The Mexican Riviera is flush with these beautiful underground pools and a trip here isn’t complete without a dip in these refreshing waters. There are multiple cenotes to visit that are much less crowded than those in the Tulum area and only about 30min away by car. Find tranquility below ground or liven you experience with a cenote/zip line combination. Both options are available and booking at least a day in advance is recommended.

Snorkeling & Snuba
The biodiversity on the protect reef in the Mexican Riviera is stunning. Take off for an afternoon when the sun lights up the corals, tropical fish and sponges and search for turtles or reef sharks. Snorkelers can float above it all while scuba divers (no certification needed) can swim down into the tropical traffic. Either option will highlight why this area is protected and turned into a National Marine Park. Yogis can walk to the beach and take a 5 minute stroll to reach the operator. This natural oasis is literally steps from our retreat center.

Scuba
If you’re a diver there’s twice the opportunity here, you can dive in the coral reefs or, for something a little different, take a cavern or cenote dive. Seasonally the more adventurous (crazy?) yogis can also try a bull shark dive…eek! Tons of diving options await the intrepid.

Akumal Sea Turtle Snorkel
The warm Caribbean waters off of the Mexican Riviera boast sea turtle populations year-round. You can outfit with a dive shop to snorkel with these lovelies or head out with your own gear and see if you get lucky.

Coba Ruins
The Mayan ruins at Coba is one of the few sites in the Yucatan that is still relatively unrestored. Many of these ancient buildings are the same as when they were rediscovered in 1890. The beautiful location is less hectic and touristy than other Mayan sites and is certainly worth the day trip.

Playa Del Carmen Take a shopping trip, have a great meal, or just enjoy people watching on a trip to Playa del Carmen. This is a fun tourist spot where you can shop for anything from cheap souvenirs to boutique items.
