About the Retreat
Join Dr Don and Janet Miller, owners of YES (Yoga Exercise Science) as they head back to Casa Om to relax and reboot. They each have over 30 years experience and specialize in functional movement and injury prevention. Therapeutic, Bikram & Flow Yoga will be offered as well as Anatomy. Janet Horn Miller
Janet Horn Miller returns to her hometown of Shelby, NC after 30 years teaching dance, gymnastics, theater and yoga in Japan, Los Angeles, CA and Asheville, NC. She has a BFA in Theater and Dance Movement Therapy from ECU, has been a certified yoga teacher since 2000 and owned several schools, camps and studios in addition to training many other teachers. She holds certifications from Duke School of Integrated Medicine in Yoga for Seniors, she has been a Bikram Yoga College of India teacher since 2005, she is certified in Mini Yogis since 2000 and most recently completed Vimana Vinyasa Teacher training in 2015. Janet is former co-owner and founder of Hot Yoga Asheville. In 2016 Janet together with her husband, Dr Don Miller opened YES WELLNESS, LLC inside Cleveland Physical Therapy Associates. Together they lead retreats and teach anatomy /yoga workshops. Janet has used her yoga practice to rehab her knee and back injuries and uses her practice to manage arthritis, eating disorders and stress. Her classes are light, fun and uplifting! She has a passion for helping people and strives to help everyone feel comfortable and focus on what they CAN do. Join Janet for the annual event ‘Yoga In the Outfield’ at the American Legion World Series to raise awareness for the American Heart Association.
DR. Don Miller
Having been born in London and spending his high school years in Spain, Dr. Miller is not only well educated in human anatomy and physical therapy, but also in many different world cultures. With his love of travel and family in other countries, he has added to his US citizenship with English and Irish as well.
Dr. Miller graduated from The Chicago Medical School University of Health Sciences in 1987 with a B.S. in Physical Therapy and received certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dr. Miller worked in a clinic located in the Chicago Bull’s training complex. He also served as the conditioning Coach to the Chicago Blackhawks and provided rehab services for members of Chicago’s NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL franchises.
In 1990, Dr. Miller relocated to Menlo Park, California, where he served as the team physical therapist for the San Jose Sharks of the NHL and continued to work with many Olympic and professional athletes.
Dr. Miller moved to Shelby, NC and founded Cleveland Physical Therapy Associates in 1994.
A life-long learner, Dr. Miller completed numerous continuing education courses, earned three different degrees in Physical Therapy and achieved multiple advanced specialty certifications. Dr. Miller is a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT) and holds a diploma in Osteopractic Rehabilitation. He also earned certifications in Spinal Manipulative Therapy, Dry Needling and the Functional Movement Screen – FMS and SFMA. Dr. Miller teaches anatomy workshops for PT’s, massage therapists, and yoga teachers.
While in college, he participated in wrestling, football, and powerlifting. Today, Dr. Miller is an avid yogi and practices a minimum of four times a week. To add to his yoga practice, Dr. Miller was certified in Yoga Teacher Training for Seniors at Duke Integrative Medicine, Durham, NC in 2015, and completed Vimana Vinyasa Teacher Training in Asheville, NC in 2016. In this same year, Dr. Miller added a state of the art infrared yoga studio to his clinic. He has completed Anatomy for Yoga workshops with Doug Keller and training for Ghosh/Bikram Method with Janet Horn.
Dr. Miller and his wife Janet are now passionately working on alternative health and wellness philosophies with OptiYou RX and its founder, Billy Wease, RPh, and their own YES Wellness – a lifestyle program that integrates yoga, exercise, and science to help others live a more balanced, healthy, and whole life. Together they host yoga and wellness retreats in some of the most beautiful destinations in the world.
Casa Om has 11 beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms, a spacious and well equipped yoga room, swimming pool, a rooftop dining area and 2 kitchens. Bedrooms can set for either single or double occupancy, and have either a private bathroom or a bathroom shared between two rooms. Casa Om also has a new dorm that sleeps up to 6 people in bunk beds.
The rooms at Casa Om are comfortable and beautifully designed with air conditioning and fans. Drinking water and wifi are provided. Casa Om sleeps 26 and is across the street from the beach.
At Casa Om we run a full gourmet vegetarian kitchen. We offer extensive Mexican, Thai, New American, and Lebanese food options. Visitors love our fresh juices and superfood smoothies. All dishes are prepared with a healthy yogic lifestyle in mind. We love to make gluten free and vegan meals as well.
We will include breakfast each morning and dinner 4 nights out of the 6 you are with us. The other nights we will venture out into town.
Our head chef, Eduardo, is a former restaurateur; he brings more than 10 years of professional cooking experience to Casa Om. He is passionate about food and his cooking classes are a favorite amongst our visitors. Those passionate about cuisine will find a like-minded soul.
Fly into CUN – Cancun Airport.
We will pick you up from the airport and take you 20 minutes south to the beautiful town of Puerto Morelos on the white sandy beaches of the Mexican Riviera.
We are located at 9 mza 26 sm 02 avenue javier rojo gomez, Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Optional Excursions (additional fee applies):
The Mexican Riviera is flush with these beautiful underground pools and a trip here isn’t complete without a dip in these refreshing waters. There are multiple cenotes to visit that are much less crowded than those in the Tulum area and only about 30min away by car. Find tranquility below ground or liven you experience with a cenote/zip line combination. Both options are available and booking at least a day in advance is recommended.
Snorkeling & Snuba
The biodiversity on the protect reef in the Mexican Riviera is stunning. Take off for an afternoon when the sun lights up the corals, tropical fish and sponges and search for turtles or reef sharks. Snorkelers can float above it all while scuba divers (no certification needed) can swim down into the tropical traffic. Either option will highlight why this area is protected and turned into a National Marine Park. Yogis can walk to the beach and take a 5 minute stroll to reach the operator. This natural oasis is literally steps from our retreat center.
If you’re a diver there’s twice the opportunity here, you can dive in the coral reefs or, for something a little different, take a cavern or cenote dive. Seasonally the more adventurous (crazy?) yogis can also try a bull shark dive…eek! Tons of diving options await the intrepid.
Akumal Sea Turtle Snorkel
The warm Caribbean waters off of the Mexican Riviera boast sea turtle populations year-round. You can outfit with a dive shop to snorkel with these lovelies or head out with your own gear and see if you get lucky.
The Mayan ruins at Coba is one of the few sites in the Yucatan that is still relatively unrestored. Many of these ancient buildings are the same as when they were rediscovered in 1890. The beautiful location is less hectic and touristy than other Mayan sites and is certainly worth the day trip.
Playa Del Carmen Take a shopping trip, have a great meal, or just enjoy people watching on a trip to Playa del Carmen. This is a fun tourist spot where you can shop for anything from cheap souvenirs to boutique items.
